Do they really make clothes from watermelon? I have had the latest one in my possession for months and yet I have never worn it. I have long been fascinated with the idea of fashion from watermelon. I must have been influenced by the old kids story in which the kids ate watermelon and the fruit fell off their clothes and they got all dry and stiff. I've even come up with many, many, many, many artistic ways to incorporate a watermelon into apparel. In fact, I am almost positive that someone has done this before; hence the prevalence of the meme. I must have been feeling particularly in the mood for cotton in January, for here I am, blogging about a watermelon sweatshirt. Now mind you, I love a good cotton print or color - it's part of the long-term vision for Steampunk that I have, but I really wanted something a little bit different. After much thought and research into fabric and fabrics, I realized that 'watermelon' was just the kind of fabric I was looking for. How did I finally end up in possession of one? A friend in the process of a switch of jobs moved to the middle of nowhere. One day, I went to visit her and found a giant poster in her house. It was a Swatch advertisement that was staring at me: a giant watermelon in the window of a store, inviting me in to buy a watermelon swimsuit. I was kind of grossed out by this, since it looked more like a giant watermelon bomb than a swimsuit, but I figured I could buy the poster later. The big green cloud that it carried piqued my curiosity, and I decided to walk in there and see what else they had. (I only need one, damn it.) The swimsuit was priced at just US $10. You couldn't get a single one at Toys R Us for that price. Clearly, this was a one-time sale. I didn't think twice, and bought it, since I only needed one. I never got the poster, but I still have the swimsuit, and I wear it. :P I posted about it on my facebook profile, and a friend turned me 648931e174
